WHAT IS EQUESTRIAN VAULTING?
Equestrian Vaulting is essentially gymnastics on horseback with the emphasis upon ‘the vaulter's harmony with the horse’. The sport is growing rapidly and its history can be traced back to ancient Minoan bull vaulting, troop training from the Roman cavalry and ‘La Voltige’ in the middle ages. Vaulting was included as the Olympic event ‘Artistic Riding’ at the 1920 Games in Antwerp where the competitors were cavalry soldiers.
Scottish Equestrian Vaulting was set up in 1996 to develop and strengthen the sport of equestrian vaulting throughout Scotland. Since then, we have organised competitions every year, hosted British championships and CVIs (International Competitions), including CVI Fenwick earlier this year!
We believe that vaulting is one of the most accessible and affordable equestrian sports, and is a very sociable and friendly one too! We want to build awareness of vaulting, improve participation at all levels of the sport and deliver an environment where all can thrive.
